Elmar Vogt
I knew Elmar from a few strange stories that were told about him and from the “Eastfrisian Skate Cups”, where he stopped by with a few other Lingen locals.
I saw Elmar live in action with Marius at a skate party at the Bright Messe in Berlin. The two of them skated around all over the place and made fun of the skaters there and started taking the piss out of some skaters. Mind you, only the skaters who thought they were something special. Except for one skater, who the two thought was cool, and that was David Conrads, who was also able to attract attention at the party with his individual behavior. I watched the spectacle for a while and immediately liked the two of them. The four of us then spent the evening together and had a lot of fun.
Somehow the contact between Elmar and the “Stanley We” guys came about. Elmar was then often in Hamburg with his buddy Marius and on the road with the “Stanleys”. I was there from time to time and got to know Elmar even better. A short time later, Marius moved to Hamburg and Elmar immediately followed. So we met up more and more often and had a lot of fun. Elmar is absolutely unique and immediately stands out with his personality and behavior. He doesn’t give a shit what other people think about him and he says what he wants regardless.
Accordingly, he asked me one evening that it was a dream come true for him to be allowed to drive for Morphine and whether that would be possible. I gave him my honest opinion that I don’t see him as the skater who will be at every contest and meet photographers and filmmakers all over Germany. But on the other hand, he is a personality like no other, which is worth a lot. So I offered him the deal that he would officially join the team, but would have to pay the production price of the decks. However, if he can sell enough decks in his crew, he does not have to pay for his decks. He agreed and has been a team member at Morphium Skateboards ever since.
He then told me enthusiastically about Peter and his skating and suggested that I send him Morphium Stuff. I trusted him and sent a stuff package straight away. Peter was really happy about it and we stayed in touch.
However, I was only able to meet him in person at the Mastership in Dortmund in 2000. There I was able to see his skating for myself. While we were skating a session on a 3 doubleset at the Mastership, I realized that it was exactly the right decision to bring him into the team.
Peter has recently had some bad luck with various injuries. For this reason, he had to cut back on skating after a few years. As a result, he no longer lived up to his own standards and withdrew from the team and the sponsorship world.
