Bülent Kurtca
Bülent Kurtca is originally from the island of Sylt. He moved to Hamburg at the end of the 90s and since then was considered a Hamburg local skater who could also be found regularly in the old I-Punkt Halle.
That’s where I met and got to know him for the first time. At that time, he was already a permanent member of the Carhartt team and had already been around the German scene a bit. It was therefore only a matter of time before the board company contacted him. However, he had already shown interest in Morphium at the time and so one thing led to another.
Bülent had continued to develop his skating skills since joining the team and had firmly established his name in the German skate scene. With an interview in the then “Monster Skateboard Magazine” and various other media appearances, Bülent was considered a figurehead for Morphium Skateboards at the time.
Around 2003, the “Cobra Cabana” crew was formed, in which Bülent was an integral part along with Patrick Eling and Captn Clepto. “CC4Live” was more or less a lifestyle that the three of them lived out at the time. In 2004, the idea came up to make more of it, and there was an option to set up his own board company “Cobra Cabana Skateboards” via 24/7 distribution. Of course, this also meant that Bülent would be leaving Morphium to help build his own board brand.
Bülent told me about the idea, which I thought was a shame for Morphium, but it could certainly be a good opportunity for him. So that was okay for me and I wished him all the best.
“Cobra Cabana Skateboards” was actually launched, but unfortunately it didn’t last long. According to the rumors, there were disagreements with 24/7 and within our own ranks, which caused the whole project to fall through.
I still have good contact with Bülent. Every now and then the past comes up again when he tells me that it was a stupid decision to take morphine back then.
